LAUC-D Distinguished Librarian Award

History of Award Recipients

PURPOSE OF THE AWARD

This award is intended to recognize excellence in librarianship, specifically as it furthers the teaching and research missions of the University on the Davis campus. The award is distinct from regular promotion and advancement procedures.

CRITERIA FOR EXCELLENCE IN LIBRARIANSHIP

Either specific achievement(s) and/or sustained excellence may be recognized. However, the following criterion must be met by all candidates. The consistent embodiment of the highest standards of librarianship, which would enhance the activities and quality of the University's intellectual community. These standards may be met in a variety of ways, including activity which involves exceptional:

ELIGIBILITY

All members of the Davis Division of the Librarians Association of the University of California (except sitting members of the Distinguished Librarian Award Committee) are eligible to be nominated.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations may be submitted by LAUC-D members (except sitting members of the Distinguished Librarian Award Committee), faculty, staff and students. Nominations shall be kept confidential. All nominations should be accompanied by supporting documentation.

DOCUMENTATION

Although the exact format of the documentation will vary, there should be some organization of sources and kinds of evidence. Concise presentations are encouraged. The following should be supplied by the nominator: Cover letter outlining the nature of the outstanding contribution, Supporting letters from persons directly affected by the nominees work pertinent to achievements upon which the nomination is based. If further information is needed, a member of the Award Committee will contact the nominator.

REVIEW PROCEDURE

Documentation is reviewed by the distinguished Librarian Award Committee, which is appointed by the LAUC-D Chair, in consultation with the LAUC-D Executive Board. The Award Committee is chaired by the LAUC-D Past Chair. It is composed of the Chair, and four members with the following representation: one member-at-large from LAUC-D, one member from the Academic Senate Library Committee, past Chair of the LAUC-D Review Board, the University Librarian or her designate from Library Administration. The Awards Committee serves one year. It calls for nominations, maintains confidential deliberations and selects the recipient of the award.

CALENDAR

The call for nominations is to be made in February. The deadline for applications is in April. The award is to be granted in May or June (on no more than a triennial basis, no more frequently than once in three years).

Note: Nominations are being solicited for 2010 with a modified calendar. The call is being made at the end of April. The deadline for nominations is May 28, 2010. The recipient of the award will be announced on or before July 15, 2010, with recognition of the award recipient in Fall of 2010.

Zero or one award may be granted.

AMOUNT OF AWARD

The amount of the award will be $1,000.00, contingent on available funds.
